Applicant Selection Criteria

In general, the candidate must have an excellent scholastic record, demonstrated leadership ability, and outstanding personal and academic promise. He/she must be unable to meet the expenses of a college education without financial help and must be willing to earn a portion of his/her expenses while in college. The candidate must be willing to devote a reasonable amount of time to prepare himself or herself for leadership in the community.

Selection Considerations
  • Demonstrated academic performance: high school grade average and college entrance exams
  • Priority will be given to those with leadership in academic and non-academic areas (e.g., sports, community service, fine arts)
  • Priority will be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college
  • Priority will be given to students who require financial assistance to attend college based on family income limitations

Scholarship Retention Criteria

Scholarship recipients, to retain the scholarship throughout their college years, must maintain a fine record of scholarship and leadership and earn some portion of their college expenses. In general, a 3.0 grade point average is required. Students who fail to maintain this average may have their scholarship withdrawn at the end of the school year.

Scholarship recipients must make such financial, scholastic, and other reports as the Scholarship Foundation Board may require via the website.  Scholars are assigned sponsors, to whom they report regularly, with whom they discuss their college experiences, and from whom they receive counsel and advice. In general, this is achieved through correspondence and visits where possible.
